Terms

The agreement between your family and S&B Kinship, LLC when you buy a season. Short, and in the same voice as the rest of the site, because a term you could not follow is not a term you agreed to.

The short version

Five calls, four files, and your money back if it stops.

You buy a season for one storyteller. We telephone them five times across about six weeks, and we deliver four files. If it does not happen, you are refunded for the part that did not happen, and you are not asked to explain yourself.

The rest of this page is that paragraph with the edges defined. Nothing below takes back anything above it; if it reads as though it does, that is our mistake and we will fix it rather than argue it.

If you came in through the pilot, two numbers on this page are different for you: four calls rather than five, and $99 rather than $1,200. Everything else applies to you exactly as written. The detail is in The pilot, below.

What you are buying

A season, for one parent.

The price is $1,200 for the season, payable up front, plus any sales tax your state requires — that is added at checkout and calculated from your billing address, so in some states it is nothing. That is one storyteller; a second parent is a second season. Printing and binding are yours to arrange — we deliver files, and we do not ship a physical book. Nothing here is a subscription and there is nothing to cancel afterwards.

The pilot

The first families pay less, and get one call fewer.

We are running a small first group. If you were invited into it, what you bought differs from the season described above in exactly two ways.

Everything else on this page reaches you unchanged — the four files, the refunds, what you own, the limits, and every word of the privacy policy. A lower price does not buy you fewer rights, and it does not buy us a looser promise. Your parent’s recordings are treated exactly as any other family’s.

What we hope for in return is your honest reaction to what comes back, including the parts that disappoint you. That is a hope and not a condition. You owe us nothing for the keepsakes, saying nothing at all costs you no part of what you paid for, and a bad review does not affect your refund.

Who does the interviewing

June is an artificial intelligence, and this is part of the agreement.

It is on the pitch page, it is in the consent form, and it is here, because the one thing that must never happen is a family discovering it afterwards.

June states what she is at the start of the first call, unprompted, and again any time she is asked. If you would prefer your parent not be told before the first call — that they simply take the call and hear it from her — that is a choice you can make about the paperwork, not about the disclosure. She will still say it, on the call, every time she is asked. We will not run a season in which the storyteller is kept from knowing.

What we need from you

Consent, a phone number, and a time.

Refunds

Before it starts, all of it. Partway through, the rest of it.

Refunds go back to the card that paid, and we start them the day it is settled rather than the end of a cycle. Write to support@sbkinship.com and say the word “stop”; that is a sufficient message and you need not write any more than that.

Who owns what

The stories are theirs. The files are yours.

The words your parent speaks are your parent’s, and nothing here transfers that to us. We claim no ownership of their account of their own life, and we take no right to publish, quote, license or display any part of it. The consent form grants us exactly one thing: permission to record the calls and to make your keepsakes out of them.

The finished files are yours, outright, for good. Print the book as many times as you like, on any press, for anyone. Copy the recordings for every sibling. There is no licence key, no login and no expiry, and no clause in here that lets us take that back later. If this company disappears tomorrow, the files on your device carry on working exactly as they did.

What remains ours is the service itself — this website, the software, the book design, and June. You are buying the output, not a licence to run the process, and reselling the service or passing it off as your own is the one use that is not permitted.

What we don’t promise

The honest limits.

Liability, and law

Our responsibility is capped at what you paid us.

If something goes wrong and we owe you money, the most we owe is the amount you paid for the season. That is the standard limit and we are not going to dress it up as generosity.

Nothing in that limit applies to the things it should not: our own fraud, our own gross negligence, a breach of the four hard limits in the privacy policy, or anything the law does not permit us to cap. Some states do not allow certain limits to be excluded, in which case they do not apply to you.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, where S&B Kinship, LLC is formed. Formal notices under these terms are given by email — yours to admin@sbkinship.com, ours to the address you gave us when you bought the season. That is the agreed method for both of us, and neither of us has to put anything in the post.

Anything a court requires to be served formally goes instead to our registered agent, whose address is on public file with the Illinois Secretary of State — a contract can agree how the two of us send each other letters, but it cannot change where a summons goes. Everything else, including anything you are unhappy about, goes to support@sbkinship.com, and we would much rather hear it there first.

If any part of this page turns out to be unenforceable, the rest of it stands.

Ending it, and changing it

Either side can stop. The refund terms decide the rest.

You can stop at any point, for any reason or none, by writing to us. So can the storyteller, directly, without going through you. The refund terms above then apply.

We can stop if consent is withdrawn, if the storyteller cannot safely take part, or if the calls are being used for something this service is not — and if we do, you are refunded for the calls that did not happen.

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them, and the version you agreed to when you paid is the one that governs your season. A later edit does not reach backwards into a family already partway through.
